Solar Power Back Up Power System How To Guide

  1. Buy a XANTREX XPower Powerpack 1500

The XPower Powerpack 1500 is a portable power system that can supply up to 1500 watts of household electricity - enough to run almost any electronic product or appliance you might connect to your wall outlet at home. XPower Powerpack 1500 consists of a battery pack that stores electrical energy, state-of-the-art electronics that convert 12 volts from the battery pack to household power, an AC power panel that contains two standard outlets, and a DC power panel that is used to run 12 volt products. These components are packaged into a rugged "cart" with a removable waist handle that allows XPower Powerpack 1500 to be wheeled from room-to-room or outdoors over rough terrain.

  2. Buy a 100 watt Solar Panel

A 200 watt will recharge it in 5 hours. So buy what you can afford.

  3. Buy a ICP 7 AMP Charge Controller

A charge controller, also known as regulator, is an integral part of most solar systems over 15 watts. The 7 Amp Charge Controller will prevent solar panels of 105 watts or less from overcharging your battery. The controller will automatically stop the charge when your batteries have reached their full voltage. This will assure trouble-free solar charging and longer battery life. Great for small and medium size systems.

  4. Buy a BatterySAVER FLEX™ Accessory Set

You can buy this directly from ICP Solar here: http://www.icpsolar.com/accessories.php3 $14.99 Includes o-ring battery connection cable, male and female cigarette adaptors and clamps.

  5. Hook It All Together

    1. Connect the Solar Panel to the ICP Charge Controller as directed by the solar panel's instructions and the charge controller's instructions. DO NOT do this with the panel in direct sunlight, you could be shocked.

    2. Connect the charge controller to the female cigarette adaptor that comes with the above BatterySAVER FLEX™ Accessory Set.

    3. Connect the XANTREX XPower Powerpack 1500 with the male cigarette adaptor that comes with the Powerpack to the female adaptor that is connected to the charge controller mentioned in the above step.

Note: The XANTREX XPower Powerpack 1500 will need to be initially fully charged with the included AC adapter when you first recieve it. So the first time you need it, it will be fully charged. After it runs out of power the first time you can recharge the system with the solar panel.

  6. Recharge the System as Needed

The ICP Charge Controller will stop charging when the 12v battery of the Powerpack is full and will change its light from red to green as marked on the controller. Remember, the stronger your solar panel, the less time it will take to recharge your system.
